Yesteryear, Basic Training Visit

Break From Basic TrainingIt was either July or August of 1984. My brother and his family were going to Myrtle Beach I believe. So he decides to make a detour to Fort Jackson, South Carolina where I was doing my basic training for the U.S. Army. He actually finds out where I am that particular day which was at the shooting range. But he’s told that visitations are not allowed. Figuring that’s that, they’re leaving the base when some guy gets my brother to pull over. He inquires about this license plate because apparently, he’s from the same location I believe. Anyhow, turns out this guy is a civilian contractor/employee and has some pull and tells my brother that he’ll make sure that he gets to see. So I’m at the shooting range and it’s only about 180 degrees that day when my drill instructor tells me that my uncle is here to see me. Didn’t make much sense, I just couldn’t see one of my uncles making the trip to South Carolina to see me. So when they take me over to this guy, he explains the whole story to me and tells me to follow along. So we either walked or drove down this old dirt road and around the corner is my brother and his family. What a welcomed surprise it was. Not only that, but I got to sit in his air conditioned car for awhile. It was short visit, but I was very happy to seem them. The picture above is one my brother took of me with my niece Deanna and my nephew Jason. Remember it like it was yesterday.

I remember this, too! I love you. Sometimes, life gets in the way and that’s important to say!

    Well, I love you too.

Tell us what you're thinking...(no ALL CAPS!)
