Chrome / IE8 Quick & Dirty

The past couple of days, I’ve had the opportunity to test Googles new browser “Chrome” and Microsofts new browser “Internet Explorer 8″. Both are still in beta. First impressions of both are somewhat mixed. Chrome is fast, very fast. It’s basic, simple and reminds of a browser that we would have seen available in 1995. I tested Chrome against IE7, IE8, FF2 and Safari and hands down, it’s much faster than any other browser. I did not test it against Opera. It’ll be interesting to see how far Google takes Chrome. I usually don’t recommend beta versions of any software, but if you’re looking for a quick, simple and what seems secure browser, give Chrome a test run and see what you think. As for Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft has added a few more bells and whistles. And while it’s faster than IE7, performance still doesn’t match that of FireFox. And for you plugin developers for Wordpress, you’ll have your hands full with IE8. Many of the popular plugins bloggers are using DO NOT work with IE8. Will this change before it’s final release? Possibly, but doubtful. So for now, I’m sticking with what works. IE7 has been my preferred browser since it was released. Still, if you like to dibble in the browser war, my guess is that IE8 will be a worthy opponent, so give it a test run as well. One thing to note, in the past, Internet Explorer has always been a royal pain in the ass to uninstall. This doesn’t seem to be the case with IE8. I uninstalled it without any issue, re-installed IE7 and both IE7 and FireFox are running on my pc without any issues.
