We were discussing my last “Remember When” entry when somebody mentioned Drive Inn Theaters. So we started polling around the station and figured that the average age of employees here on this particular day is 28. Of the 16 people working today, 12 of them have never seen or been to a Drive Inn Theater. Oddly enough, the 4 of us who have are over 30 years old. I believe we had at least five Drive Inn Theaters in this area when I was growing up, one of them less than a mile away from the house. Two of my earliest Drive Inn memories is seeing Herbie The Love Bug and Frankenstein with my mom and Death Race 2000 with my sister and brother-in-law. The last movie I watched at the Corral Drive Inn before I left for the Army was Footloose (1984) and the last movie I watched at a Drive Inn was Full Metal Jacket at a Drive Inn in Hawaii (1987). We still have one Drive Inn about 45 miles away that I’ve never been to and I’d love to introduce my kids to the Drive Inn Theater experience. Wouldn’t it be great to see a comeback with Drive Inn’s?
