Our 2020 Jeep Gladiator

Our 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Our 2020 Jeep Gladiator.2019-12-20_09-28-382019-12-20_09-29-29Army star.Army star.About a month and a half ago, we traded our 2018 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack in on a 2020 Jeep Gladiator. We’ve had many Jeeps in the past and have been very pleased with them. We also have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. One of my biggest regrets was getting rid of my 2001 Wrangler when I traded it in on 2004 Pontiac GTO back in the day. I loved the GTO, but I really missed the Wrangler. I knew that one day I’d have another. When it was announced that Jeep would be releasing the new Gladiator last year, Lenora and I were both excited, but we knew we’d have to wait a year or so for the “newness” to wear off and the prices lowered. With winter approaching, I knew that I’d eventually have some issues with the Challenger and would have to rely on somebody else to get me to work, so I started looking at the Gladiator and Wrangler again. Our local Dodge/Jeep dealership had just gotten this Gladiator in and I really loved the color, it matches our Grand Cherokee. So, by the end of the day, the deal was done and we drove her home. Yes, her. All of my vehicles have been given female names. I’m thinking this one will be named Gladys. No big mods planned, I did add the Overland and Army star vinyl, replaced the stock whip antenna with a short and stubby and I’d eventually like to get some beefier tires. We’ll just have to see what falls into place. But after a month and a half of driving it, I don’t regret my decision at all.

One Last Update To The Poor Man’s Swamp Cooler

Poor Mans Swamp CoolerPoor Mans Swamp CoolerPoor Mans Swamp CoolerPoor Mans Swamp CoolerAfter taking a closer look at the finished product and thinking it over for a few days, I decided to paint the brace for the swamp cooler the same color as the cooler itself. If I didn’t like it, I could easily revert right back to the blue. But after it was painted, there was no doubt in my mind that the brace looks 100 times better painted the same color as the cooler.

I decided to keep it satin rather than gloss, but I can always go back and change that. I’m very pleased with the end result, it looks a lot more like a vintage swamp cooler now! Updating The Poor Man’s Swamp Cooler Part I

DIY Vintage Swamp CoolerDIY Vintage Swamp CoolerDIY Vintage Swamp CoolerDIY Vintage Swamp CoolerDIY Vintage Swamp CoolerIt’s time to take our “vintage looking” swamp cooler and really make it look vintage. The prices for real vintage swamp coolers are through the roof. Last year we found a guy who sells reproduction swamp coolers that are actually pretty functional at fraction of the cost of real vintage swamp coolers. We’ve used it for over a year and have been very pleased with it. Now it’s time to start upgrading it to actually look a little more vintage or at least my vision of vintage. Part I of this upgrade is complete and outlined in the following video. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for some warmer days to move on to Part II. Beer Tap Handle Shift Know & Boot

It’s smooth and tight. I did paint the shifter knob to match the exterior of the Beetle, but I always hated that cheap looking plastic base. I’d had plans for a long time to change the knob with a beer tap handle and to add some kind of shifter boot. A few weeks ago, I finally found the beer tap handle that I’d been looking for. There are some really nice and decorative tap handles available, but since Michelob ULTRA is currently my choice of beer (gotta watch those carbs), I decided to go with it! Oddly enough, the brass fitting on the tap handle was the exact same size as the shifter rod, but the threads were different. Since brass is so soft, I just re-tapped it with the correct thread pattern and it fit like a charm. But this being a trigger shifter, the gap needed between the brass fitting on the tap handle and trigger was unsightly. I needed something that would fit over the trigger “tube” but still allow it to be slid upwards. I guess if I had a lathe, I could turn a piece of brass that would work, but I don’t have a lathe or the expertise run one, but I did have some pvc pipe laying around with the correct inside diameter for the trigger tube. I just needed to flare one end to fit over the brass fitting on the tap handle. Nothing a little heat from the heat gun couldn’t handle. I just heated the pvc and slid it over top of the brass fitting. Once I was satisfied and tested it, I gave it a couple coats of brass paint and it looked like it’d been there forever. [Read more…]

Vintage Flower Vase Install

Vintage VW Beetle Flower VaseVintage VW Beetle Flower VaseVintage VW Beetle Flower VaseVintage VW Beetle Flower VaseVintage VW Beetle Flower VaseVintage VW Beetle Flower VaseVintage VW Beetle Flower VaseI’ve been wanting to install a vintage flower vase for a long time. However, to find an original is rare and if you do and it’s for sale, expect to pay upwards of 300 dollars. M & T MFg. sells a reproduction that is amazing, not only in detail, but also quality. Best part, it’s only 20 dollars. So I ordered one a week ago or so, it arrived the other day and I was very pleased with it. I knew that I was going to mount it to the right of the speedo, but I hadn’t figured out how. Initially, I was going to take the grill out of the dash, but that would’ve been way too complicated. Instead, I put some double side tape on the mount, pushed it into place, then removed the vase from the mount. The double sided probably would be plenty strong enough to hold it in place, but I decided to add a sheet metal screw just for good measure. I thought about using a pop rivet, but that would be harder to remove if I want to in the future. So now, I just need to find the perfect flowers for it.

Mabel Gets Some Bling

OEM Rock GuardsOEM Rock GuardsOEM Rock GuardsOEM Rock GuardsOEM Rock GuardsOEM Rock GuardsOEM Rock GuardsVintage Flower VaseVintage Flower VaseI’ve had these OEM Rock Guards for a while, just never got around to installing them. So this past weekend, I took some time to finally install them. The install is fairly easy, I was going to do a tutorial on the install, but I think it’s to easy of process, anybody can do it. I will provide a couple of tips. Whatever fender you’re working on in the rear, remove the wheel, remove the bottom two bolts on the fender and remove the bolt that secures the running board to the rear fender, it makes the process much easier. No need to remove the front wheels or fender bolts. I did buy some edge trim off of Amazon just to dress the top of the guards, it blends with the fender gasket as well. I’ve been on the lookout for a vintage flower vase for ages, but never lucked into one. They go for big bucks on eBay and other sites, up to $300. M & T Manufacturing sells replicas that are spot on, real ceramic and mount included for $20.00. Very nice quality. I will do a tutorial on the installation as soon as I get around to it.
